Civil Service Positions and Testing

The Prosser Civil Service conducts tests for the following classifications:

 

Lieutenant

Master Sergeant

Sergeant

Detective

Police Officer

Animal Control Officer

 

The Prosser Civil Service Commission has an "open application" process and accepts applications from interested individuals at all times. Below is a list of the different positions and some instructions for the application process.

 

Entry Level Officers: Entry level applicants must first test with Public Safety Testing. The Prosser Civil Service Commission contracts with Public Safety Testing to conduct the physical and written testing phases. Once those sections are passed, Public Safety Testing will forward to the City the applicants information. The City will then contact the applicant and provide them an employment applicant and background release. Once these items are returned, applicants will be added to the oral board listing for the next scheduled oral board.

 

Lateral Entry Officers: Lateral Entry Officers are those that meet the following criteria: 1. You must have completed the testing process and been hired by another agency/department within the State of Washington, from a Civil Service Commission certified eligibility list of like process; 2. You must have successfully completed your probationary period with your current or previous law enforcement employer; 3. You must have been continuously employed by your present or previous employer as a civilian law enforcement for not less than 12 months in Washington State. You must have been employed as a law enforcement within the last 24 months; 4. You must have graduated from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Academy for law enforcement. If you have not, you must be able to challenge the process for an equivalency certification. Lateral candidates that meet these qualifications should complete the following Lateral Application and Police Background Information Release form. Once received, the applications will be scored pursuant to Civil Service Rules and the candidate will be added to the oral board listing for the next scheduled oral board.

 

Exceptional Entry Officers: Exceptional Entry Officers are those that meet the following criteria: 1. You must have completed the testing process and been hired by another agency/department within the United States from a Civil Service Commission certified eligibility list of like process; 2. You must have successfully completed your probationary period with your current or previous law enforcement employer; 3. You must have been continuously employed by your present or previous employer as a civilian law enforcement for not less than 12 months; 4. You  must be able to challenge the process for an equivalency certification with WA Criminal Justice Training Commission. .Exceptional candidates that meet these qualifications should complete the following Exceptional Application and Police Background Information Release form. Once received, the applications will be scored pursuant to Civil Service Rules and the candidate will be added to the oral board listing for the next scheduled oral board.
